The arc-t Thread-A-Thon aka The Thread That Never Ends

One of the most pointless and silly things to ever be done by the members of arc-t, the arc-t Thread-A-Thon is an attempt at seeing just how long a thread can go on before a) the end of the world, b) all of the people participating go into comas or c) somebody comes up with something better to do. The thread began on January 20, 2001.

And of course, no pointless expenditure is complete without a completely pointless page about it! So here you will find all sorts of stats in regards to the thread. This of course is going to be a work in progress. Be sure to let me know though if you have any ideas!

For those of you who care about that sort of thing: I have set up an archival system on the Linux portion of my computer which basically acts as a person newsserver. Every few days I retrieve posts from my ISP's newsserver as well as 10-15 free newservers. When I want to update this page, I run a script against the contents of my archive which provides me with all of the totals. This system seems fairly stable and reliable so the counts should be complete, or at least close enough that nobody better say a word otherwise. ;)

Overall Statistics

Records

Being pointless isn't enough. We want to break records! Records are updated about the same time as the rest of the stats, although I won't record month-based records until that particular month is over.

The Origin of the ThreadaThon

Actually two questions.
What was the longest running thread on arc-t?
And which thread contained the most posts?
Also, would anyone be interested in a ThreadAThon to try and
see how long we can make one thread go?

Somewhere, somehow, something may make sense of arc-t.
Be afraid, be very afraid.

This is Jon Downie's idea. He was obviously too chicken to
start it himself, so....

Let's see how long we can keep this thread going, AND how many
posts we can get in response to it. I'll keep track of both,
and will periodically post updates (in this thread of course!).

In this thread, anything goes, so long as we keep the thread
alive!

The goals are:

   1) run this thread forever; if not forever, then as long
      as possible
   2) get as many posts made to this thread as possible,
hopefully more than any thread in arc-t history
   3) have a representative number of posts made to the
thread daily (if there's only 20 posts made in a day,
then 2 or 3 is representative; but if there's 500
posts in a day, we'd damn well better have 15-30 or
      more posts in the thread!)
   4) have fun!

The rules are:
   1) do *not* change the subject line
   2) post frequently and repeatedly
   3) have fun!

So, peoples, let's get the game going!

*breaks out a deck of cards and starts dealing people hands
while humming the song "This is the Song That Never Ends"*
