The Twit List (the old one, not the new one)

The Twit List was created and maintained by Timothy Meyers in late 1998. Collected here are all of his main posts of the twit list, with some minor formatting since this is html and not plain text. Enjoy!

And when you're done, hop on over and check out the current Twit List.

*VOTING*

Any alt.religion.christian-teen regular or semi-regular can vote, meaning anyone basically that looks like they have/will be sticking around or just didn't "drop by" to troll or whatnot. They can vote for as many twits as they so desire. To be twitlisted, one must have five votes, at least two of which from their own "side" (divided into christian and non-christian only). Even after being twitlisted, said twit maintains a "Twitscore", recieving 1 point from each opposing side vote and 2 points for each vote from their own camp. It will still, then, be entertaining to vote for a twit even after he or she has been twitlisted. Votes can be posted on list, preferably with "Twit" or "Twitlist" in the header, or e-mailed to tcmeyers@usit.net and (on request) kept in confidentiality. As the author expects a number of votes for himself, he will keep a steady watch on the group at all times. =)

*NOMINATION REPORT*
As you can see, Neil and Holyfire are nose to nose in the race for second twit electee, with Holyfire having the advantage of still being around and one valuable christian vote. Neil, however, has been the trademark for twittiness for months now, despite his abrupt disappearance. Sagalore has a couple votes, and everyone else inches behind (Steve's nomination was an obvious joke in the part of Saga).

Lindsay Jackel (Jerkel, Jackass, Jackoff) is a special case, a legend in the eyes of a.r.c-t. His infractions of twittiness include arrogance in approach and concept, accusations directed towards the majority of the christian body of being "pagans", and unrivalled circular arguing. Indeed, Jerkel defines what it means to be a twit.

*WHATZIT?*

A list of many names for the listing of twits, inspired by but in no way affiliated with the alt.atheist twitlist. For the purpose of familiarity, the term twitlist will be used throughout (although gits, shits, etc. are more than welcome to be included).

As the author expects a number of votes for himself, he will keep a steady watch on the group at all times. Accidents happen, and if one does, simply point out the error in a clear message and I'll be sure to fix it. THE BEST PLACE TO VOTE IS IN RESPONSE TO THIS MESSAGE or through e-mail.
Votes can be retracted for whatever reason, but only if their subject is not yet elected on the actual twitlist.
Rules Update 12/24/98: Now, to rub salt into the wound, your humble Twitlister, Tim, will write paragraphs immortalizing the elected twits.
Rules Update 12/27/98: Due to their rarity, votes from one's own "side" will now be worth three points on the Twitscore (instead of two).
Rules Update 4/13/99: Characters like Last Church, who are neither technically christians nor liberal (or charming) enough to be on the still-diverse non-Christian side, will be declared "sideless". This does not apply to atheists who are simply too obnoxious for their "side" to want to accept them, simply those whose beliefs would not fit on either side. This also does not apply to people who certain Christians may try to "disown" because they do not fit a certain narrow and biased definition. The purpose is, quite obviously, to maintain a fair perspective on the vote count, both Christian and atheist votes being worth only one point. To be elected to the twitlist, these people still need five votes, and to even things out, must recieve two votes from each side.

*NOMINATION REPORT*

As you can see, Neil and Holyfire are nose to nose in the race for second twit electee. Holyfire has a Christian vote, but is gaining cobwebs and will probably end up not making the cut. Neil's recent return to arc-t should boost his score significantly, although he has softened up with age. New heavyweights Luke and Downie, however new and yet to prove their loyalty to arc-t, are spiralling up the charts.

His infractions in twittiness include arrogance in approach and concept, hypocrisy, accusations directed towards the majority of the christian body of being "pagans", and unrivalled circular arguing. A particular habit of his is distributing a very biased FAQ, claiming it is the "official" one despite the fact that it is not accepted as the official one by anyone besides Jerkel (and maybe a few other kooks, none of which have stuck around for long enough to be remembered). He also claims to be the "Moderation Synod", which is very impressive considering that a.r.c-t is not a moderated group. Behavior like this really defines twittiness-funny, frustrating, and, well, funny, all at the same time.

Jerkel

14 (3*, 5)

Election #1/Placement #1(tie)
Lindsay Jackel (Jerkel, Jackass, Jackoff) has a special place in the bladders of arc-t. His infractions in twittiness include a trademark of arrogance in approach and concept, hypocrisy, accusations directed towards the majority of the christian body of being "pagans", and unrivalled circular arguing.
Jerkel's claim to fame involves his distribution of a FAQ that actually set "rules" for the group, approved only by himself. He also set "rules" for Christianity, and getting into heaven. Despite his lack of any supporters next to a few rare twits, which shall remain nameless until they make their way on to the list themselves, he did manage to promote himself to the role of the arc-t "Moderation Synod". The impressiveness of this accomplishment is only magnified by the detail that arc-t is not a moderated group.
Jerkel was the first twit electee. He was shot within distance of the list quickly, but it took a little while to garner the required second Christian vote. He was at present time the only poster killfiled by a certain Steven Schrader, and just as quickly abandoned the group as he assaulted it.

Jim

14 (3*, 5)

Election #2/Placement #1(tie)
The first words I remember Jimmy Phelps reciting involved the murder of "fags", and I have the feeling those will be the last words anyone will ever hear come out of his mouth. Rev. Phelps is probably about as homophobic as one can be, coming off as a living representation of godhatesfags.com and other militant evangelist groups. His stupidity and hypocrisy were both outstanding, but Jim's habits, although short-lived, created a style all his own.
Jim has made attempts to refute posts on only a couple of occasions. They were, of course, his own posts, after other people quoted them. He went through another memorable phase in which he posted demands for the entire group to "STOP REPLYING, DAMMIT", while continuing to post replies to all of these people.
Jimmy became infamous more quickly than any other arc-ter ever, securing a number of twitlist votes the second he posted to his second thread. He did not have any trouble getting votes from other Christians, even other homophobes. It was not hard to not hate Jim, simply too damned funny to take seriously, but it was next to impossible to not ridicule him. There is a line drawn in militant evangelism than even Hitler would dare not cross; Jim Phelps crossed it.
